The History of The Park Hotel

The Old Park Tavern Dorchester Road was puled down in August 1878 and a new pub, The Park Hotel was erected in Grange Road in 1879.
The Park Hotel was built in 1879 on land leased to Alfred Edwin Pope from Sir Frederic John Wiliam Johnstone M.P. of Westerhall in the county of Dumphries in North Britain.
Rent for the land was £20 per annum.
(The Popes had the pub built).
Edridge Pope purchased the freehold land for £870 on 31st January 1921.
The building was damaged by enemy action 27/28 May 1944.
